It is very interesting to note that the Bible describes 2 types of wisdom:-
James 3:
Earthly wisdom
14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.
15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.
16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
Heavenly wisdom
3:17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
We have all being trained from young to use the earthly wisdom. Whenever any things happen, the first reaction is to tackle it using what we have learnt. However, I like the example of David, the great king of Israel. While reading Psalms, I realise that he did not seek earthly wisdom to deal with his enemies. Instead, he sought the counsel of God. When he was pursued by Saul, the situation was very pressing and demanded a immediate strategy against him and his soldiers. But yet King David turned to God for help and asked God to examine him first because He realised that if he had regarded iniquity in his heart, God would not hear him. Thus, he realised that he needed to position himself right before God and the battle would become the battle of the Lord.
The warning given by James was quite strong. Earthly wisdom is earthly, unspiritual and even of the devil. The result of seeking earthly wisdom results in selfish ambition, bitter envy, disorder and evil practices etc.
However, we were admonished to seek the wisdom from above. When we practise to seek the heavenly wisdom, it will change us. This wisdom is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
I am again reminded to bring another matters that happen to me before God. Usually thing happened for a reason and there are always valuable lesson for us to learn. Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
