Having a cold

I have been having a cold for a few days already and it is quite irritating because of its disturbing symptoms like runny nose, persistent sneezing and overall tiredness. It is very tempting to end the suffering with cold medicines, cough suppressants or antibiotics. Most probably because not only I suffer but my family members also have to put out with all the sneezes.

However, I have decided against it most probably because of the many talks I have attended on nutritionally immunology. In the book on "Nutritional Immunology" by Dr Jau-Fei Chen, she advised that sneezing, sniffling and the need to clear the throat are actually the body's way of informing us that it is fighting a virus. Such symptoms allow the body to get rid of the viral invader. Sneezing throws it out of the respiratory tract while mucus of a runny nose and throat phlegm contain many trapped viruses that we easily expel. The pill we take does not stop the cold, it only puts a temporarily stop to the symptoms. By stopping an urge to sneeze, we are preventing our body from expelling the invaders!

The common sense rule is a cold should disappear on their own after a few days else we still have to consult the doctor cos there might be some other problems that need to be addressed.

This reminds me of Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Sometimes when things happen to us, we just want to end it fast by some external means. We do not take time to bring it before God to ask Him what He wants us to learn from the incident. We know that God is a God of purpose and all things that happen to us have a reason. Sometimes I also have to repeat lessons after lessons because I failed to learn from it.

May God bless us so that we continue to progress in life.

  1. Hi Iris, no wonder your voice sounds funny today. So have you recovered by now? At times, being sick is a blessing in disguise! Praise the Lord!

He reached that milestone yesterday when he was called to the Bar during a mass ceremony at Nanyang Technological University. "This is the culmination of what I've been working towards for the last 10 years," he told The Sunday Times. "It's like waking up from a dream and finding out your dream has become reality." His life of crime began at the age of 14, and he was in and out of prison for offences that ...

A eagle story

Got this story from an email and find it very meaningful. Please read on ... There is a story about a little eagle that fell out of its nest and landed in a turkey farm. The eagle grew up among the turkeys and, although he looked a bit different, he learned to waddle like a turkey, bob his head like a turkey, and act like a turkey. One day the young eagle looked up into the sky and saw a beautiful eagle soaring above. The little eagle in the turkey yard thought, Oh, I would love to be able to do that! As the eagle soared overhead, it looked down and saw the young eagle below. Suddenly it swooped down to the ground and asked, "What are you doing here?" The little eagle replied, "I am just here in the turkey yard where I have always been." The great eagle looked and said, "Spread your wings, boy. You do just what I do. Follow me." Then he flapped his wings and lifted off the ground. The young eagle tried it, too. "Wheeee! This is all right!" "...

Loving one another

1 John 4:20b. .. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. The above verse is a very good reminder.   We need to love not only in words but in deeds. Just visited a brother who was sick.  He could not come for the church meeting as his sickness has handicapped him.  But praise God, I saw the love of the brothers and sisters who take turn to care for him.  To fetch him to the meeting hall and also to read the bible with him.  By so doing, they have strengthened his faith. 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 1 John 3:18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. I have read from a blog on how to care for one another: First Thing Is Prayer If you really love your neighbor, the first thing you will do is pray for them. As a human you are li...
