The Word of God

I like this principle I just learnt : The Lord cannot become your life until the Word of God becomes your life. In order for me to really know God, I need to spend time on His Word before Him.

I have recently attended a seminar on "Quiet Time" and I found it very helpful. In the past, after reading a portion of the Word, I will just pray to God over my needs and then that is. It is always one way traffic and not much interaction between me and God. There is also not much reflection and meditation.

However, in this seminar, I learn to come to God to ask Him what is this passage about. There is always a reason that a passage is included in the Bible. Our God is a God of purpose. It is for us to know Him better and sometimes, it serves as a warning, a command for us to follow or even a promise for us to claim. I also learn to ask myself what is the lesson or principle that I can apply from this passage. How about the attributes or character of God? The Bible declares God, His attributes, his ways of relating to people, His views about something or event.

We were also encouraged to write down in our journal our conclusion, impressions and learn to concentrate on one or two things that are especially meaningful to us personally.

Finally, we are to learn to apply the lesson from the passage and the truth to our life. 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. God always include a passage to teach us, rebuke us, correct us and train us. Ultimately, we can be a vessel fit for His use.

As I try to apply the reading in this manner, I find that I also learn to ponder upon His word and throughout the day, His Holy Spirit will also guide me into the understanding of His words. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

  1. Hi Iris, Yes, every word in the Bible is important. When I read all the names in Numbers, I was flabbergasted! These names tell us the importance of tribes, families, relationships. It also tells us to tell one another the things of God, to tell one generation to the next the wonders of God. I am amazed that God can remember all the names of His people and that He make sure that not one name is missed out! Awesome!

3Ds - Declutter, Detox & Debug

Just learnt these 3 words in a seminar - De-clutter, De-tox, De-bug In order to hear God clearly, I need to constantly apply these 3Ds in my life:- 1) De-clutter Most of the times I have a hard time to discard things and I tend to keep them and then forgot about them.  Things get piled out and it does affect my search for important things.  Likewise, I also have many ungodly thoughts that can clutter my thought and keep me from hearing God.  It takes times to de-clutter and I need God to show me what it is that is hidden, which He desires for me to discard, so that there is a room to hear His voice. 2)  De-tox Toxic attitudes & behaviors that I allow into my life affects my hearing and has impact on my walk with God.  There are many lies that the enemy has planted in my thought life and this can impact my relationship with God. I need to discern and identif...

ASK, SEEK & KNOCK

Below is a sharing by a christian friend:- ASK: I got up early one morning & rushed right into the day. I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me and heavier came each task;'Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered. He said,"But you didn't ask." I wanted to see joy & beauty but the day toiled on, gray & bleak; I wondered why God didn't show me. He said,"But you didn't seek." I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently & lovingly chided "My child, you didn't knock," I woke up this morning and paused before entering the day. I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.  My friend's experience reminded me of a quote by Martin Luther :  “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”
