Journaling - Recording what you hear

I decided to keep a separate account, a personal written record of my spiritual experiences, observations on a regular basis after reading the book by Elizabeth Alves.

In the past, I received some impressions while doing certain tasks or while praying but during that moments, these impressions do not make sense or I cannot fully understand what the Lord is saying. As I do not commit them in writing, I forgot about them and only a fragment of it remains.

Elizabeth Alves mentioned that journaling is one of the most important disciplines of a Christian's life. Journaling always begin with the date of entry. As times goes by, you may forget when certain events happened. But your journal will help you to trace patterns that have occurred around different circumstances in your life.

Whenever God gives you something, write it down, record impressions, words or Scriptures you receive during your prayer time. We should also record not only what we have seen and heard, but also our own feelings and interpretation at the time. Then when God answers, you can check your feelings or impressions with the outcome.

God may show you something that is not to be shared; it's only to be prayed for. Make sure you hold His secrets in trust. The Lord may speak things to you that will actually come about days, months or years later. Keeping a journal increases your faith as you come to realize that you really do hear from the Lord, especially when the things you have written down begain to come to pass.

I will start my personal record today. How about you?

Adapted from the book written by Elizabeth Alves - Becoming a prayer warrior.

  1. Hi Iris, way to go! God bless your writing.
At times when life is not smooth and as I look through my journal, I felt much encouraged and sense His love because as I looked back, I see so many of His blessings and His work in my life which some I have already forgotten.

3Ds - Declutter, Detox & Debug

Just learnt these 3 words in a seminar - De-clutter, De-tox, De-bug In order to hear God clearly, I need to constantly apply these 3Ds in my life:- 1) De-clutter Most of the times I have a hard time to discard things and I tend to keep them and then forgot about them.  Things get piled out and it does affect my search for important things.  Likewise, I also have many ungodly thoughts that can clutter my thought and keep me from hearing God.  It takes times to de-clutter and I need God to show me what it is that is hidden, which He desires for me to discard, so that there is a room to hear His voice. 2)  De-tox Toxic attitudes & behaviors that I allow into my life affects my hearing and has impact on my walk with God.  There are many lies that the enemy has planted in my thought life and this can impact my relationship with God. I need to discern and identif...

ASK, SEEK & KNOCK

Below is a sharing by a christian friend:- ASK: I got up early one morning & rushed right into the day. I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me and heavier came each task;'Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered. He said,"But you didn't ask." I wanted to see joy & beauty but the day toiled on, gray & bleak; I wondered why God didn't show me. He said,"But you didn't seek." I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently & lovingly chided "My child, you didn't knock," I woke up this morning and paused before entering the day. I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.  My friend's experience reminded me of a quote by Martin Luther :  “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”
