Creating a simple time-line

Lately having problems publishing post especially during the day time. Last Sunday, our children were taught how to create a simple time-line using a story from the Bible. First we told the children the background of the story and then we distribute the time line cards to them. We use the yarn and clothespeg for the kids to add their card to the time line while the story was being told. What I enjoy from this process is that the children listen attentively to the story as they need to peg the correct cards to the time-line and they were told to read the time line card to reinforce their memory. Children are just lovely though they can misbehave at times.

Patience - what it is?

Is Patience just the ability to wait? It is more than that. When we describe someone with the patience of Job, it means he or she can keep their temper in the face of severe trials and difficulties. According to Joyce Meyer in her book, "Be your best", Patience is a fruit of God’s Spirit which manifests itself in a calm, positive attitude. It is the ability to keep a good attitude while we wait. We need to turn to Him to work His patience into us. It is easy to lost our cool but only when we turn to Him, then we are able to develop this potential. To help us develop this potential, I realise God also put us in certain environments. Heb 10:36 .... We need patience so that we may perform and fully accomplish the will of God.

A story about a cracked pot

A water bearer in China had two large pots, one hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you." Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?" "I have been able, for

Are you a cracked pot?

Do not be disheartened. Though we are an old pot of clay or even a cracked pot, yet the excellency of the power of God worked in us. Although we are cracked, the light of Christ in us will shine through the cracks. Without the cracks, no one can see God's wonderful work in us. God works through our imperfections for His glory. So that when people look at us and see amazing things happening, they know it must be God at work because it certainly could not be us. I always enjoy this verse, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. (2 Corinthians 4:7.) Though we are so ordinary, so earthen, we have the excellent power of God in us. We live by this whole new way ie. trusting God always in our daily lives. Isn't it amazing?

The just shall live by faith

The christian hymnal, God hath not promised skies always blue.....best describes my experience today. Not sure why? Although I knew clearly that God has already made me right through Christ in His sight. But why am I still feeling insecure or afraid? I knew Satan is busy and diligently interrupting my faith so that I will be cut off from the flow of God’s blessing. Heb 10:38a Now the just shall live by faith...This verse has been a source of my strength .... We need to choose not to live by what we think and feel but by what we know is right in our spirit. I am going to declare this truth … God is no respecter of persons and He has an awesome life planned for me!! The hymnal continued.... But God hath promised strength for labor, Light for the way, Grace for the trials, Help from above, Unfailing sympathy and, Undying love.

Me & My Budgies

Hi, my name is Lindy. I was asked to contribute in this blog. Hmm, what to begin. I shall start to blog about my pet. I owned 3 budgies. I love them very much and they are just part of my family. Budgies are wonderful birds, I love their sweet temperament. They are jovial and love playing with me. Sometimes I allow them to come out of the cage and fly in my little room. This allow them to explore and stretch their wings. I think it is a good exercise for them to keep them in good shape. They really enjoy the flight. For those who want to keep birds as pet, budgies are good choice. They love to spend time with human companions. They also interact by chirping happily especially when you talk to them. Want to know their names?

Family - vital role to raise God fearing kids

2 Timothy 1:5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. Timothy's genuine faith was due, in no small measure, to his godly upbringing and the influence of his grandmother and mother. As parents, we play a vital role to lead our children to Jesus or grounded them in the faith! God wants to use us, parents and grandparents to pass on an eternal legacy to our children and grandchildren! The following passage from Psalm 78 is the old testament's directive especially addressed to the fathers. The fathers have an important role to play in shaping the children's future before God. 4 We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. 5 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathe

Christian Children - how to handle them

This morning I attended a Christian seminar on how to raise our children for God's big move. Some points touch me : Children do what we do. They do not do what we say. We are role models to our children. Our children are constantly facing the challenges to apply their faith to their world. As Christian teacher, our challenge is to stay anchored to those Bible truths and make them relevant so that our children can continue to grow as followers of Christ.

Instructions from who?

I have a problem using one of the equipment in the gymn and I asked the guy next to me for help. However, instead of helping me, he pointed to the gymn instructor. I felt that he was not helpful at all. Today this incident came into my mind again. The guy looked very familiar to me, and I soon realised that this guy was the same instructor that taught my two girls swimming. It dawned on me that what he did was correct. He was not a gymn instructor and being an instructor, he knew that it was very important to receive the correct instruction! The correct instruction must only come from the gymn instructor and none other. My personal comments: It is always good to point our friends to God. Only when they experience God, then they can have a fruitful Christian’s life!! Cos the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:19-2, NIV)

The Missing Person

This morning while reading a story related by Don Cossett, my tear just welled up. This story is about an evangelist who counselled a woman by the name of Mrs Meyers who was a mother of two boys. Mrs Meyer came to sincerely seek help for her two sons. She told the evangelist, “My two sons are not Christians. They are almost grown men and I am so unhappy about their indifference to God. I have prayed for them for many years,” she commented, “and still they are not saved. Please be honest with me and tell me why they do not come to God.” The evangelist began to probe “Is your husband saved?” “Oh, yes” she answered. “He is a very good Christian.” Then he asked, “Do you have a family altar in your home?” “Yes,”. “Furthermore we say grace at every meal, go to church every Sunday.” Inspite of all this, and also my praying, my boys don’t give themselves to God. The minister realized that this woman was honestly seeking. He sensed that the lack of answer to her prayer lay basically

The Bible Cure for Cancer by Don Colbert, M.D.

Recently two of my friends lost their lives to cancer. It seemed that Cancer is very prevailing not only among the old but also among the young. Based on statistics, one out of every 3 of us will die of cancer. I decided to take a look of it from the biblical approach. The book on the bible cure for Cancer fits in the bill. What are cancers? The passage that follows is an extract from the book by Don Colbert. Cancers are usually made up of very immature cells. Each normal, healthy cell has a specialized function that is designed and "destined" to perform. Consider a small child. He or she may grow up and become a businessman, a doctor, an engineer etc. Yet another young child with the same apparent destiny - in terms of having good parents and a good environment - may grow up and, instead of performing a meaningful job, may become a gang member, a murderer, a bank robber or a serial killer. Something happened in this individual's life to change his destiny. In

Children of Israel

Got this joke from this website. http://jokes.christiansunite.com I only look for clean healthy jokes. Objective : Just a good laugh and none other. Mr. Goldblatt," announced little Joey, "there's somethin' I can't figger out." "What's that Joey?" asked Goldblatt. "Well accordin' to the Bible, the Children of Israel crossed the Red Sea, right?" "Right." "An' the Children of Israel beat up the Phillistines, right?" "Er--right." "An' the Children of Israel built the Temple, right?" "Again you're right." "An' the Children of Israel fought the 'gyptians, an' the Children of Israel fought the Romans, an' the Children of Israel wuz always doin' somethin' important, right?" "All that is right, too," agreed Goldblatt. "So what

Christian battles belong to the Lord

Are you battling everyday? You are not alone. I also battle every day. Today a sister shared how she overcame her gambling habit. In the past she could play majong from morning to night and also loved buying lottery. However, she won this battle quite easily because she was enjoying her walk with God. She did not know that she had already given up this bad habit until someone pointed out to her. However some habits are with us for many years. To get rid of them is like a mission impossible. But we need not be discouraged!! Look at the word of God again, the Israelites were faced with many enemies - the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites etc. but God said he will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for them. Little by little He will drive them out before them, until they have increased enough to take possession of the land. (Exodus 23:28-30). Our bad habits are just one of our spiritual enemies that are di

Mother's Day Celebration

Today is Mother's Day and I receive a number of sms honoring the mothers. Being a mother, I enjoy that I can make a difference in the lives of my children. Words of Wisdom from Karen Wolff a guest writer of about.com: Make up your mind you're going to make a difference to somebody else. You can be a blessing, you can say something positive to somebody else, and you can focus on making the most out of every moment. James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action(deeds and action of obedience), is dead. My personal comments:- I will rather say positive things to encourage them and focus on how to make the most out of every moment. God's word is always so positive and helps me to draw strength from God to do His will. I got a lovely hand made cards from my two daughters.

Ten 'Can'-mandments by Pastor Rick Warrens

Pastor Rick Warren discusses the Bible passages that inspire him the most. Today's Devotional is based on this passage: "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13 NIV).. So often we think of commandments as a list of don'ts. Instead of focusing on what we can't do, let's start looking at what we can with this list of ten "can"-mandments! 1. Instead of thinking, "It will never fly," think, "Through God's strength, it's worth the try!" 2. Replace the thought, "It won't work," with faith that, with God's strength, it will work! 3. When someone says, "It's never been done before," respond by saying, "That means God's giving us the opportunity to be the first." 4. "What if we fail?" What if we fail to try, knowing God says we can do everything through Him who gives us strength? 5.. "We don't have the money." Where God guides,

A frog story

There once was bunch of tiny frogs who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants... The race began... Honestly: No one in crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. You heard statements such as: "Oh, WAY too difficult!! They will NEVER make it to the top." or: "Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!" The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one... ... Except for those who in a fresh tempo were climbing higher and higher... The crowd continued to yell "It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!" More tiny frogs got tired and gave up... ...But ONE continued higher and higher and higher... This one wouldn’t give up! At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who after a big effort was the only one who reached the top! THEN all of the ot

Flu - Help yourself get better

In the Good Health Handbook by Dr Peter Mansfield, there are some points worth noting:- 1) Regard 'flu symptoms as evidence of your body's self-healing efforts. If you can possibly tolerate them, do not interfere. 2) Avoid in particular all the pain killing medicines, coffee, strong tea, chocolate, cola & tobacco 3) Home-made Barley Water is your best drink, or you may take diluted unsweetened fruit juice also. 4) Manage a shower each day, this will help ease fever and pain, and wash away dried perspiration. 5) Good breathing technique promotes excretion of volatile chemicals, ventilate room 6) Plenty of rest My comments: You may try to take E.Excel product Noco to strengthen the respiratory system & ACT to strengthen & nourish your immune system

WORDS USE BY WOMEN

1) FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up. 2) Five minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means half an hour. "Five minutes" is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house. 3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with "Nothing" usually end in "Fine". (Refer back to #1 for the meaning of "Fine") 4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't do it! 5) Loud Sigh:This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about "nothing". (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of "nothing") 6) That's OK. This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a

Free Will to choose

God created each of us with free will. He did not want us to be robot. We are free to choose but of course there is a consequence if we made bad choices. In the garden of Eden, he set the choices before men. The consequences of the choices are explained clearly to them. If he choose the tree of life, he will have everlasting life but if he choose the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he will face the consequence of death. Everyday we are faced with choices to make. Sometimes we made some good choices and at time we made some bad choices. As christian believers, we can override all the negative things Satan has planned for us by simply exercising our willpower to agree with God and His Word. Many times we choose to believe the lies of the enemy. We choose to believe that we are too insignificant for God to care. Thus we develop low self-esteem, unworthy and thus no confidence in whatever we do. But if we choose to believe God's word, we can start to enjoy God's best f

God is like an eagle

Exodus 19:4 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Deut 32 : 11 like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. These two portions were read in our morning devotion. When I reached home, I decided to read out more about eagle. What I learnt is that when the baby eagles are born, the parents bring food up to their nest and feed them. When they are ready to learn to fly, mother eagle will fly into their nest and begin to thrash around causing a great commotion. Eventually one of the baby eagle will fall out of the nest and begin heading for the earth below. As the baby eagle is not really sure of how to use its wing, he does lots of flapping while heading straight down! Just before the baby hits the ground, the mother eagle flies underneath in order to “catch” the baby on her powerful wings and she flies him safely ba

Coincidence or Providence

Sometimes when God answers our prayer, we felt that it is just coincidence. However, when we walk with God we have just seen too many "coincidences" each time after we pray and too many "accidental" answers to prayer. I enjoy reading the book by Don Cossett. There are no coincidences with God. The Bible teaches that God is not only sovereign in controlling all things at all times, but is actually programming and guiding events in accordance with His eternal purposes. Ephesians 1:11 says that "He works all things after the counsel of His will." Nothing happens by pure chance or accident, even a fortunate or unfortunate events. We may not have the big picture to know what God is doing and why He is doing it. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:9) but we do know that "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him" (Romans 8:

God's mode of operation - He declares first and it came to pass

Isaiah 48 : 3 I foretold the former things long ago, my mouth announced them and I made them known; then suddenly I acted, and they came to pass. The above verse clearly showed the principle of God's method of operation. First he declares things, then He does them. It impressed me to learn to make a list of the things that I had been learning that were rightly mine according to the Word of God. By so doing, I was declaring the decree! God's word shall not return to him void, He will bring it to pass. I started declaring this verse, "I am a new creature in Christ: old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Cor 5 : 17. By declaring His Word, I am agreeing with the Lord and refuse to believe in the lies of the enemies. I am taking my thoughts which are inconsistent to the Word of God to subject them to the Word and the truth will set me free and I can go on with the Lord. We can overcome the enemy by the blood of Christ and we have the pow

Is it true that rice water (the water used to wash rice) is good for the plant?

This statement seemed quite true because my friend use this water to water her passion fruit plants and they are now ready for harvest. I think it is quite nutritious for the plants. Passion fruit is a climber and it loves to hug and climb up on other bushes and trees. There are many health benefits of Passion fruits:- 1) high does of vitamin A and C. Vit A helps body to remove free radicals that cause skin and tissue damage and also improve our vision. Vit C helps to repair tissue, help prevents heart diseases and cancer and helps our bones. 2) Antioxidants found in passion fruit helps to block histamine, reduce allergy and inflammation and thus very beneficial to those who suffer from asthma. It also helps to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. 3) It is also anti-inflammatory. 5) It seeds (one cup) contains almost 25g of fiber. Great for cleansing colon and helps in digestion. The high fiber also help to flush out the buildup of fat and cholesterol in the heart and thus pr

Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue

Got this from an email....but use at your own risk, cos not tried before... *Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue* As dengue fever is rampant now, it might be good to know there is an alternative to use for curing. Content extracted from email: A friend of mine had dengue last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor says there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She already had 2 blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted. Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out for her. The next day, her platelet count started to incre

Diarrhoea and remedy

Got this email from someone, thought it might be of use especially with the recent case on the Gelyang Serai food poisoning out break.. When someone gets diarrhoea, sometimes the solution is so easy, we wonder why anyone has to suffer. The secret is in rice water. This is already known in this region. Ask your maids -- Sri Lankan, Indonesian, Filipina and they would know about it. (My mother) knew about it. When Dr Albert Winsemius came to Singapore for a farewell and thank you dinner in his honour, he brought along his wife Aly and his granddaughter, Jolijn. Both women came down with very bad gastroenteritis. They saw the doctor who gave them medication. It was slow to work. Mother boiled some rice in lots of water and went to their hotel with two 1.5L bottles of rice water. I cringed in shame at the offer of this folk remedy, which seemed so primitive to me. Never heard of this cure before. To my surprise, it worked, and they were even able to go out for dinner the next day. Both wer

The Coffee or The Cup by Chuck Blore

I love this illustration by Chuck Blore .... A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: 'If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you c

Did you use the blank cheque?

The moment you accepted Christ as your personal savior, you have access to the entire resources of heaven. (Taken from the book "What you say is what you get! by Don Cossett). When Jesus says, "Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you." In another word, He is giving us a signed check on the entire resources of heaven and asking you to fill it in. This is a great priviledge! I have started cashing the cheque by proclaiming His word and in His Name and realising the power of God's word. When we learn to use the name of Jesus according to the Bible, in the power of the Spirit, we have the secret which shook the world through the Apostles. How about you?? "Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full" John 16:24. If you want to have joy, learn to ask in His name.
